Things to do in Geelong was definitely a hard blog post to write because there is so much to do in this amazing region that I had to focus on the most important things that are necessary to focus on. It is a short drive from Melbourne, good weather, and the lifestyle is pretty amazing. So what’s not to like about Geelong? Keep reading because I am going to surprise you with all the fun and unique activities that you can do at Geelong
Total cost : $1900 for 2 people
Days spent :3 days
So Geelong was a perfect getaway for the long Easter weekend. It’s a short drive plus so much to do in the region as well. I highly recommend booking before visiting any of these places due to COVID restrictions and density limits
Geelong restaurants
The Geelong area is filled with amazing wineries, restaurants and seafood. The view wherever you dine is so spectacular.
Little mussel cafe
If you are a fan of mussel, definitely try the little mussel cafe restaurant at portarlington because its amazing, delicious fresh mussels are a guarantee when dining at this place. They also have a mussel strout, I was not very bold enough to try it, so If you are bold enough to give it a go, definitely try and let me know what it tastes like.
cost : $70 for 2 people
Jackrabbit winery
Jackrabbit winery is good if you want an upscale dining experience with a spectacular view. well, the view it is to die for. We didn’t dine here, we wanted to do a tasting at the cellar door, but it was not opened during easter, so if you like to dine here, I have heard good recommendations on this venue
Annies provedore
This is a good place for a coffee or breakfast, yet again, I didn’t visit this place but definitely worth a visit and I read some good recommendations for breakfast, coffee, afternoon cake and tea.
Tacos y liquor
Oh boy!!! who would have thought nightlife in Geelong was happening!!! well, you would be surprised if you visited little malop street. There is plenty of restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs on this street. We dined at tacos Y liquor, which is an amazing spot for Mexican food and margaritas. Definitely give this restaurant a go if you are keen on a Mexican fiesta
cost: $70 for 2 people
Best Wineries Bellarine peninsula
There are plenty of wineries in the Geelong & Bellarine area, but we only visited 2. One reason was a few of them were closed during easter long weekend, and all of the wineries that I spoke to had a fee on tasting, due to these reasons we just stuck to 2 wineries
Scotchman hill winery and terindha estate and jackrabbit winery are the three wineries that are worth visiting. I recommend all 3 wineries if you want to taste some great wine. Scotchman hill winery was amazing, the service was really good and the wine was absolutely amazing.
cost : $15 per person
Terindha estate only provides a tasting paddle, the view is amazing. I didn’t quite enjoy the tasting and the wine served but definitely, the view was well worth the visit
cost : $15 for a tasting paddle
Geelong accommodation waterfront
We stayed at Campbell point house. It is a beautiful chateau that is surrounded by a lake If you are looking for Geelong accommodation with a pool, then this will definitely tick the box with the infinity pool overlooking the lake. The castle itself is very beautiful and it’s a privately owned property. The room is so beautiful and you will definitely feel like living in a chateau. The stay here had a summer sale deal therefore it only cost $600 a night and we stayed for 2 nights. The room price will include dinner for one day, a 5-course degustation meal, and includes breakfast during the whole stay.
The dinner was wonderful, you can enjoy some pre-dinner cocktails at the bar just next to the restaurant. The last course was a cheese platter, it was a very nice ending for the perfect weekend getaway, they accompanied us to the fireplace and we got to enjoy our cheese and our wine in front of the fireplace, which was beautiful.
Breakfast is a la carte and served in their courtyard or restaurant. Coffee, juice, pastries, eggs to your liking are served every day. The only downside of the breakfast is that the breakfast options are limited, so it’s basically the same breakfast on both days.
The property its self is beautiful but not well maintained and the pool area has been neglected, but saying that all the positives outweigh the negatives, therefore definitely recommend staying here.
Things to do in Geelong
The Q Train
If you are in the Bellarine peninsula region Q train is a must. Ok what the hell is the Q train, basically it’s a degustation train ride from Queenscliff to Drysdale. It’s a beautiful and unique experience. 5-course degustation meal is served. we booked the 1st class experience which has matching wine and tea coffee included and private cabins for the journey. The second course was served at a platform where you disembark and enjoy the dish, which was quite a nice pit stop to get down and stretch your legs.
when you book 1st class, before you start your journey, at the platform they serve you sparkling wine, beer and canapés until you wait to board the train.
Highly recommend this for its uniqueness and beautiful scenery along the way. The food itself is good but didn’t blow my socks off, but saying that, its a train journey so I understand the food needs to be catered accordingly. Everything that was served was delicious and had nothing to fault about.
Q train cost : $378 for 2 people
Q train menu
- Autumn picnic basket
- Gin cured salmon
- Beetroot and nectarine
- Braised beef
- Goats yogurt mousse
